Loma Linda has been grilling on Paseo de la Reforma in Mexico City since 1924, more than a century of tradition in the same family of dining rooms. The Reforma house, at the top of the avenue where it climbs into Lomas de Chapultepec, is a large, clubby set of rooms where several generations of the same families have been eating for decades and the waiters know most of them by name.
The format is Argentine parrilla. Picana, rib eye, top sirloin and arrachera skirt steak are the core of the menu, cooked over charcoal and served without ceremony, backed by a long list of classic sides and a wine program built for red meat. Portions are generous and the kitchen is confident enough to keep the seasoning restrained and let the fire do the work.
It functions as a business lunch room during the week and a family institution at weekends, with its own kids menu for younger guests. That combination is rare at this price point and explains why the room is full at 2pm on a Saturday.
