Seven-course Mexican tasting menu in a Roma Norte townhouse
Lorea occupies a quiet townhouse on Sinaloa in Roma Norte and does one thing: a seven-course tasting menu that changes with the season and builds its case for Mexican produce course by course. The current chapter, El Quinto Cuarto, looks at how value gets built around an ingredient, and the sequence runs about two hours.
Chef Oswaldo Oliva trained for a decade in Spain, including time at El Celler de Can Roca and at Mugaritz, before opening Lorea. His cooking is precise and pulls ingredients from small growers across the country, then rebuilds them into something unsentimental about tradition. The Michelin Guide lists Lorea in its Mexico City selection, and the room also appears on 50 Best Discovery.
There are three ways to sit. The main dining room is the standard service; the counter at the open kitchen turns the menu into a running conversation with the cooks; and a private room seats up to twelve.
A deposit holds the table and can be moved or canceled up to two days ahead, after which it is not refundable. Dinner only, Tuesday through Sunday, 5pm to 11pm.
