Thai cooking in a hidden Polanco garden house
Manaw is the Thai restaurant hidden inside a 1942 residence on Avenida Emilio Castelar, one of the prettiest addresses in Polanco. The building carries historic heritage protection, and the dining room spills out into a planted open air courtyard where ferns and climbing greenery do most of the decorating. Arriving feels less like entering a restaurant than walking into somebody's tropical garden.
The kitchen keeps the menu deliberately short and cooks it straight, without softening the chilli, lime and fish sauce that make Thai food work. Pad thai and curries are done properly, khao pad saparod arrives in a hollowed pineapple, and the chor muang dumplings, folded into purple flowers and filled with wagyu and foie gras, are the one obvious luxury flourish.
