Mexico City's oldest restaurant, reborn in Polanco
Prendes is the oldest restaurant name in Mexico City. Two Asturian brothers, Manuel and Rafael Prendes, opened it in 1892 on the plot where the Palacio de Bellas Artes now stands, then moved it to 16 de Septiembre in the Centro Historico when construction began. Over the following century it fed Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, Maria Felix and Venustiano Carranza, and Rivera's habit of ordering gusanos de maguey there is part of the restaurant's own folklore. It reopened on 1 September 2016 in a new home at Palacio de Hierro Moliere in Polanco.
