Pacific coast seafood in Bosques de las Lomas
Puntarena is Federico Rigoletti's coastal Mexican project, a contemporary reading of Pacific seafood cooking that started in Bosques de las Lomas and has since spread to Santa Fe, Virreyes and Madrid. The Bosques room, inside Plaza Parque Duraznos, is the original and set the template: wood tables, heavy planting and a long raw bar.
Executive chef Armando Jimenez runs a menu that starts cold, with tostadas of tuna and salmon, tiraditos of hamachi and huachinango, ceviches, octopus and tempura shellfish, then moves to grilled whole fish and black cod with miso. The kitchen opens at breakfast, which makes it one of the few serious seafood rooms in the city serving chilaquiles and huevos rancheros before noon.
