Nikkei fire, wagyu and rock and roll on Masaryk
Senora Tanaka landed on Avenida Presidente Masaryk in June 2022 and immediately became one of the loudest and best looking rooms in Polanco. It is the younger, more carnivorous sibling of Senor Tanaka, the Monterrey restaurant Grupo Kampai opened in 2004, and it arrives with rock and roll on the sound system and a swagger the original never had.
The interiors by Filipao Nunes are all black walls and black furniture, soft light, a bright sushi bar as the visual anchor, and a terrace shaded by orange leafed vines. The kitchen describes itself as nikkei, but the real story is fire: slow cooking, grilling and Japanese technique applied to serious cuts of meat, up to and including Japanese A5 wagyu.
