Sonora Grill Prime is the upscale, quieter sibling within the wider Sonora Grill family of steakhouses, which has been turning the parrilla into a night out since 2004. Where the standard Sonora Grill rooms run loud and family-friendly, Prime is the darker, more deliberate version: a shorter menu, better beef, a serious bar and a soundtrack that climbs as the evening goes on.
The cuts are the reason to come. Prime-grade New York, rib eye, porterhouse, cowboy and tomahawk are finished over hardwood, with Kobe available for anyone who wants to spend it. Around the beef the kitchen builds a full steakhouse repertoire of grilled octopus, short ribs, marrow, chopped salads and a dessert list that leans classic.
The Roma Norte dining room on Durango sits in one of the most walkable stretches of the city, minutes from Colonia Roma's galleries, cocktail bars and Avenida Alvaro Obregon. Inside it is all warm wood, brass and banquettes, with a bar that fills up well before the tables do and a resident DJ that keeps the room's energy climbing into the night.
Reservations run through OpenTable and are advised Thursday through Saturday, when the room trades until 2am. Sunday service ends earlier at 10pm.
