Testal specializes in what it calls Cocina Mexicana de Origen, traditional Mexican cooking built on the country's regional roots. The name comes from the Nahuatl word textlali, the balls of masa that are pressed into tortillas, and the Centro Historico branch has served it since May 2015 at Dolores 16, on the corner of Independencia, between Avenida Juarez and the Alameda side of the Centro.
Executive chef Roberto Tinoco leads the kitchen, and the room is casual, working as well for a business lunch as for a group. Breakfast runs 8 AM to noon Monday through Saturday and to 12:45 PM on Sunday, lunch runs 1 PM to 7 PM every day, and dinner service continues to 10 PM Thursday through Saturday.
Bellas Artes and the Alameda Central are a short walk away, which makes it an easy stop before or after the museums.
