Club 55 is the beach club that started it all on Pampelonne, and more than seventy years on it is still the one every other club on the sand quietly measures itself against. It sits at 43 Boulevard Patch in Ramatuelle, on the Saint-Tropez peninsula, and it has been run by the same family, the de Colmonts, since it opened.
The story is part of Saint-Tropez legend. In 1955 it began as a simple wooden cabin that fed the film crew of And God Created Woman, the movie that made Brigitte Bardot and, with her, made the town. Bernard and Genevieve de Colmont turned that cabin into a beach restaurant, and their son Patrice de Colmont runs it to this day, on a single guiding idea: here the guest is not a king, but a friend.
That philosophy is why Club 55 feels different from the champagne-and-DJ beach clubs further along the sand. This is not a party club. It is a long, unhurried lunch under the reeds, with bare wooden tables, the house crudites basket, grilled fish and simple Provencal cooking, and a crowd that has been coming for generations alongside the yacht set anchored just offshore. The look is deliberately understated: no logos on the parasols, no bottle parades, just the most sought-after tables on Pampelonne.
It runs a long season, roughly late March through the start of November, with lunch the heart of the day. On a peak July or August afternoon the tables and the sand-front daybeds are the hardest reservation on the beach, and they go to the people who booked well ahead.
