The story is part of Saint-Tropez legend. Club 55 was founded in 1955, and a year later the film crew of And God Created Woman, the movie that made Brigitte Bardot and, with her, made the town, ate at the simple wooden cabins Bernard and Genevieve de Colmont had built on the sand. The couple turned that into a beach restaurant, and their son Patrice de Colmont carried it on.
This is not a party club. It is a long, unhurried lunch under the reeds, served daily from 12:15 p.m. until around 4 p.m. Most of the organic vegetables come from its own gardens at the Vallon des Bouis farm, and the kitchen suggests the crudites basket, artichoke with vinaigrette, the Ramatuelle puff pastry, the Pampelonne salad and a traditional ratatouille, with fresh fish and mostly organic local wines. The beach runs from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., with blue canvas sunbeds on the sand under straw huts and boatmen at the pontoon.
