Homemade Italian and French cooking in the old-town lanes just behind the Saint-Tropez port
Clandestino is a small Italian and French restaurant in the shaded lanes just behind the port of Saint-Tropez, on Rue de la Citadelle in the old town. It has been part of the village for more than two decades, and its terrace sits away from the bustle of the quay, which keeps dinner calm and unhurried even in high summer.
Everything is made in house from fresh produce, and the Italian classics lead. Linguine alle vongole comes with clams, linguine allo scoglio with mussels, clams, calamari and prawns, and the house signature, Spaghetti Special Clandestino, is finished with burrata, truffle cream and shavings of summer truffle. A burrata with cherry tomatoes and summer truffle, eggplant alla parmigiana and a beef carpaccio open the meal.
The rest of the menu runs to tuna tagliata with sesame, beef fillet tagliata with parmesan and a tuna Rossini with seared foie gras and truffle. The French side of the kitchen shows in the bourride, the duck breast with caramelized orange sauce and the roasted sea bass or sea bream. Desserts include tiramisu, panna cotta and a tarte tropezienne, and the wine list covers Italian, French and local bottles.
Clandestino serves every day from noon to 11 p.m. without a break, from late March to the end of October.
