Saint-Tropez 2026: the close of the season, and the regatta that ends it
Saint-Tropez does not taper. It runs hard from Bastille Day through the end of August, empties sharply in the first week of September, and then does one last thing properly before it shuts for the winter.
That last thing is Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, the classic yacht regatta that fills the harbor with the most photographed fleet in the Mediterranean and gives the town a genuine finale rather than a slow fade. It runs in the last days of September into early October, and it is the single best week of the year to be in Saint-Tropez if you are not there for the beach.
Here is how the season actually ends, what stays open, and how to time the last trip.
The season in three parts
July 14 through August is the peak, and it is extreme even by Mediterranean standards. The town's population multiplies, the beach clubs at Pampelonne run at capacity daily, and everything requires booking weeks out.
The first two weeks of September are the best-kept secret on this coast. The crowds leave almost overnight after the August 31 changeover, the sea is at its warmest, the beach clubs are all still open, and the town becomes navigable again. Prices soften noticeably.
Late September into early October is Les Voiles and the close. The beach clubs begin shutting, the harbor fills with classic yachts, and the town has one final concentrated week before winter.
Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez
The regatta is the reason to come in the final stretch. Classic and modern yachts race daily out of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, and the town organises itself entirely around the harbor for the week. You do not need to be sailing to benefit; the whole waterfront becomes the event.
Senequier on the Vieux Port is the obvious position and has been since long before the regatta existed. During Les Voiles it is the single most contested terrace in town, because the boats come in directly in front of it.
Le Cafe on Place des Lices and L'Opera both run through the regatta week, and La Petite Plage sits close enough to the port to work as a lunch between races.
Exact regatta dates shift year to year and are published by the organisers ahead of the season. If your trip is built around it, confirm the dates before booking.
What closes, and when
The Pampelonne beach clubs are seasonal businesses on a protected stretch of coast, and they close in sequence through late September and early October.
Club 55 is the institution and one of the later closers. Nikki Beach, Shellona, Loulou, and Indie Beach run through the end of the season on the same stretch, and Bagatelle, Verde Beach, Gigi and Casa Amor complete the row.
The nightclubs hold on longest. Les Caves Du Roy at the Byblos is the one that defines the town's late season, and Sanctum and Gaio run into the autumn as well.
By the end of October the town is genuinely closed. Saint-Tropez in November is a quiet Provencal port with a handful of restaurants open, which is charming and is not what anyone books this destination for.
Dining in the last stretch
The restaurant scene outlasts the beach clubs by a few weeks, and the final month is when it becomes pleasant. Noto, Salama, and Casa Rocco run late into the season, and tables that are impossible in August open up in late September.
If you have only ever been here in peak season, a late-September dinner in Saint-Tropez is a different town entirely.
How to time it
- First two weeks of September: the best conditions of the year. Everything open, crowds gone, sea warm.
- Les Voiles week, late September into early October: the finale. Book the harbourfront early, because the terraces go first.
- Mid-October: most of Pampelonne has closed. The town still works, the beach does not.
- November onward: closed.
