Mykonos 2026: Season Close and Closing Parties

Mykonos 2026: how the season winds down, and why the last weeks are the best ones
Mykonos runs a five-month season, roughly late May through early October. Most visitors book the middle of it. The people who know the island book the end.
September is the best month on Mykonos and it is not close. The sea is at its warmest after a full summer of heating, the meltemi wind that batters the island in July and August has largely dropped, the crowds thin week over week, and the clubs and beach clubs are still running full programming right up until they close. You get peak-season Mykonos without peak-season conditions.
Here is how the wind-down actually works, what closes when, and how to time the last trip of the year.
The shape of the season
Late May to June is the opening. Venues stagger their launches across several weeks, the sea is still cold, and not everything is running.
July and August are peak. Maximum programming, maximum prices, maximum crowds, and the meltemi at its strongest. This is when most people come and when the island is least pleasant.
September is the sweet spot. Everything is still open. Prices soften after the first week. The wind drops. The water is warmest.
Late September into October is the close. Venues begin shutting in sequence rather than all at once, and the last two weeks carry the season's closing parties.
When things actually close
The important thing to understand is that Mykonos does not close on a single date. It closes in a rolling sequence over several weeks, and the order is fairly consistent year to year.
The beach clubs go first. The exposed south-coast venues wind down through late September as the weather turns. Super Paradise Beach Club, Tropicana, and Kalua on the Paradise and Super Paradise stretch are early closers.
The Psarou and Ornos anchors run later. Nammos at Psarou and Santanna typically hold into October, and Alemagou and Principote run late as well.
Scorpios is usually among the last to close, and its closing sequence at Paraga is the single most sought-after set of reservations of the entire Mykonos calendar.
The nightclubs close last of all. Cavo Paradiso on the cliff at Paradise runs its closing series after most of the island has gone quiet, and Void and TAPE in town hold on into October.
Exact closing dates move year to year with the weather and with each venue's own programming, and they are usually announced only a few weeks ahead. If your trip depends on a specific venue being open, tell us the dates and we will confirm before you book flights.
The closing parties
The closing events are their own category. They are not a wind-down; they are the biggest bookings of the season, and for several venues they are the hardest table of the year.
The pattern: beach clubs run closing parties across their final weekends, and the nightclubs stack their strongest bills into the last two weeks of the island's calendar. Because so much of the island has already shut, the remaining venues absorb the entire island's crowd on those nights.
The practical consequence is counterintuitive. A closing weekend in late September or early October can be harder to book than a Saturday in August, because supply has collapsed while demand has not.
Dining as the island empties
The restaurant calendar tracks the same curve. Zuma and Nammos hold late, as do INTERNI and Buddha Bar in town. Hippie Fish on Agios Ioannis and Negrita are the ones worth catching in the final stretch, when you can get a table at an hour that would be impossible in August.
This is the real argument for a late trip. In September you can eat at 9pm at rooms that in August are booked out three weeks ahead.
How to time it
- First two weeks of September: peak conditions, everything open, softening prices. The best all-round window.
- Second half of September: still excellent, noticeably quieter, first closures begin.
- Late September to early October: the closing parties. Fewer venues, bigger nights, harder bookings.
- Mid-October onward: the island is effectively shut. Do not plan a nightlife trip.
One planning note that catches people out: flight and ferry schedules thin out alongside the venues. Direct routes to Mykonos reduce sharply through October, and the connections that remain fill quickly. Book transport at the same time as the trip, not after.
