Jacques Chibois's once two-Michelin-starred Provencal restaurant in an olive grove above Grasse
La Bastide Saint-Antoine is chef Jacques Chibois's restaurant and hotel in the hills above Grasse, about 20 minutes by car from Cannes. The house is a 17th-century Provencal bastide in an ancient olive grove, looking out over the hinterland toward the Bay of Cannes and the Mediterranean. It is a Relais et Chateaux member and a five-star hotel with sixteen rooms and suites.
Odette and Jacques Chibois bought the house in 1996, and he is still head chef. Born in Limoges, he spent five years with Michel Guerard and ran the kitchen at Le Royal Gray in Cannes before moving up the hill, and the MICHELIN Guide calls him a leading proponent of cuisine du soleil. The restaurant once held two Michelin stars, first awarded in 1997, and is listed in the current Guide without a star. The current menus lean on the flavors of Provence: truffle ravioli in a shellfish consomme, slow-cooked octopus with lemon and socca cream, sea bass with morels and asparagus, and a hot apricot souffle with thyme ice cream.
The Menu de l'Oliveraie is served at lunch from Monday to Saturday, three courses for 79 euros; the Menu Sensation is 98 euros and the five-course Menu Senteurs 149 euros, with a vegetable Senteurs menu alongside. Tables are set in the lounges or out on a terrace in a flowering garden shaded by lime and chestnut trees, and the cellar holds 25,000 bottles.
The restaurant serves lunch from noon to 2:30 p.m. and dinner from 8 to 10 p.m., seven days a week.
