Le Maschou occupies a former fishermen's cave at 15 Rue Saint-Antoine in Le Suquet, the oldest quarter of Cannes, where anchovies were once salted and nets untangled. It has been cooking over a wood fire here since 1963, on a formula that has barely changed.
The dining room keeps the old cave's character: exposed stone walls, a richly carved mirror, silver candlesticks and softly lit tables, with the open fireplace doing the real work. Every female guest is offered a rose, and the mood moves from romantic to festive as the night goes on. From 7 p.m., Le Maschou Bar comes alive with a DJ in a lounge setting, a spot for a signature cocktail before dinner.
The menu is built around set formulas cooked over the fire. The Traditional menu, at 109 euros, opens with bread toasted over the flames and served with herbed fromage blanc and half-salted butter, Parma ham or dried beef with fresh melon, and a big basket of crudites with anchovy sauce and bagna cauda. Then comes a grill choice of Simmental beef rib, US Prime Black Angus rib, Irish rack of lamb, baby chicken or salmon, and a spread of seven homemade desserts from chocolate mousse to lemon tart. The Tomahawk for two is carved at the table, and Wagyu and vegan menus are also offered.
Service runs daily from 7 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. . In season and during events at the Palais there are two seatings, from 7 to 10 p.m. and from 10:30 p.m. to close. Proper attire is required at all times, and guests must be 18 or over.
