Ruya is the first and only modern Anatolian restaurant on the Croisette, set inside the Carlton Cannes, the Belle Epoque landmark reborn after its 2023 restoration. Ruya means dream in Turkish, and the room delivers on it: a vivid Anatolian-modern interior of Iznik-style tiles, gold and teal, hand-painted ceramics and an open-flame oven at the center of the floor, opening onto what the hotel bills as the best terrace on La Croisette.
It is the Cannes outpost of restaurateur Umut Ozkanca's Ruya group, sister to the rooms in London and Dubai, and the only one outside the Middle East. The kitchen is a live-fire, sharing-plate affair built around the ocakbasi grill. The 24-hour slow-cooked Wagyu short rib with a Turkish barbecue glaze anchors the menu, alongside a slow-cooked Black Sea lamb shoulder with tahini yoghurt, marinated Fethiye sea bream, and a spread of meze, pide flatbreads, olive-oil octopus and pistachio dishes. Fırın sutlac, the baked Anatolian rice pudding, closes it out.
What sets Ruya apart in Cannes is simply that nothing else on the seafront does this: charcoal-grilled Anatolian cooking with real pedigree, in a glamorous terrace setting, in the town's most famous hotel. Some summer evenings bring live saxophone. The dress leans smart and elegant, no sportswear or beachwear, in keeping with the Carlton address.
Ruya runs a Riviera season, roughly April through October, reopening in the spring and closed through the winter.
