Bruno Oger's two-Michelin-star bastide in the hills above Cannes.
La Villa Archange is the great gastronomic table above Cannes, chef Bruno Oger's two-Michelin-star restaurant set in a restored 18th-century Provencal bastide in Le Cannet, ten minutes up into the hills from the Croisette. In the current guide it holds two stars, and it is a Relais et Chateaux member and one of Les Grandes Tables du Monde. This is the dinner you drive for.
Oger is a Breton, trained under Georges Blanc, who earned his first stars in Cannes before opening his own bastide here in 2009 and winning two stars within about ten months. His cooking threads a Lorient-to-Cannes line: Breton produce plated with Riviera sun. The langoustines roties de la cote bretonne come with fried quinoa, fennel mousseline and a vadouvan curry emulsion; the Breton lobster is set on a buckwheat galette with Guemene andouille and a sauce finished with chouchen, Breton mead; there is scallop confit in virgin olive oil, and Gillardeau oysters with Ossetra caviar.
The setting is the point of difference: a whitewashed, shuttered bastide on a tree-lined plot, with garden lounge seating and a shaded terrace under centuries-old plane trees around a private courtyard, and an intimate gastronomic room of about twenty-six seats, cream panelling and bold modern portrait art. On the same estate, Oger also runs the casual Bistrot des Anges, a Bib Gourmand, so the property spans a two-star dinner and an easy lunch.
The dress is elegant and the format formal fine dining. Service is dinner Tuesday through Saturday with lunch on Friday and Saturday, closed Sunday and Monday, and a reservation is essential.
Outside Las Vegas we do not book restaurant tables. Villa Archange reserves through its own Zenchef page, and our Cote d'Azur team points you to it, works the hard dates on your behalf, and builds the Cannes days and nights around the meal.
