Es Torrent hides at the back of a narrow, cliff-lined cove on Ibiza's south coast, near Porroig in San Jose. It began in 1984 as a simple wooden stall on the sand and has grown, without losing the setting, into one of the island's most respected seafood restaurants.
This is a beach bar with the soul of a proper restaurant. Tables sit a few meters from the water, close enough to eat with your toes in the sand, with a shaded terrace under the pines for the heat of the day and sunbeds for hire along the beach.
The kitchen keeps it pure and local. Start with grilled squid and the sweet red Ibizan prawns, then move to the rice: arroz a banda, cooked in a rich fish broth, or the blind paella, where the shellfish is peeled into the pan so nothing needs working by hand.
It is a summer place, at its best for a long, sun-drunk lunch that drifts into the afternoon. The cove draws as many boats as cars in high season, with plenty of guests arriving by sea.
