Open-air dinner and Sunday roast at the cult 1980 hotel in the hills above Sant Antoni
Pikes hides in the hills above San Antonio, a 500-year-old finca turned cult hotel with a rock-and-roll past. Tony Pike, English-born and long settled in Australia, found the house in 1978 with no electricity or running water, rebuilt much of it by hand and opened in 1980. In 1983 Wham! shot the Club Tropicana video around the pool with Pike himself behind the bar, and Freddie Mercury threw his 41st birthday party here in 1987. Grace Jones, Tony Curtis, Spandau Ballet and Bon Jovi all passed through.
Dinner is served Monday to Saturday in an open-air dining room under the stars, with resident DJs and live musicians playing through service. Head chef Tim Payne, who trained under Marco Pierre White, cooks modern twists on old favorites from Ibicencan and Spanish produce: Iberico grilled octopus, fillet of sea bass, roast rack of lamb and fillet steak with pepper sauce.
By day, chef Tess Prince runs lunch on the rooftop terrace above the pool, with a Wagyu burger among the plates. Sunday brings the roast, a tradition that began with the lamb dinners Tony cooked for friends: roast sirloin, pork belly or corn-fed chicken with Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes, while DJs carry the afternoon toward the night in Freddies.
A dinner or Sunday Roast reservation includes entry to that night's event, so the meal runs straight into the party. Dinner is over-27s only, and ID is checked at the door.
