The rooftop at Circulo Mexicano faces the back of the Metropolitan Cathedral head-on, close enough to read the stonework. Turn along the parapet and you pick up the National Palace, the excavated stone platforms of the Templo Mayor a block east, and the Torre Latinoamericana closing the view to the west. It is the tightest, most architectural rooftop panorama in the Centro Historico, and the reason the terrace is booked out most evenings.
The hotel occupies the former home of the Mexican Circle of Photography, reworked by Ambrosi Etchegaray into a study in restraint: bare brick, pale wood, Shaker-inspired furniture, nothing decorative.
