230 Fifth is a year-round rooftop bar in the Flatiron and NoMad area, at 1150 Broadway between 26th and 27th Streets and a few blocks from the Empire State Building. Open since 2006, it is big, buzzy, and easy, and it works for sunset drinks, group celebrations, and a skyline view with the Empire State Building as the backdrop.
The venue spreads across 33,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space. The open-air rooftop holds the view, and an indoor area on the floor below keeps the night going in any weather. The space changes with the season: from November through April the rooftop fills with heated, transparent igloos that keep the city in view, and the heaters and signature red Snuggies come out for the cold.
Drinks follow the calendar, frozen margaritas served in the signature drink bag in the warm months and hot cocktails in winter, plus beer, wine, and bottle service. The kitchen keeps it simple with steak frites, the double-patty rooftop burger, fish tacos, and guacamole and chips, and brunch runs Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 4pm. DJs play Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights and at Sunday brunch, with weekends leaning to 80s, 90s, and house.
Walk-ins are welcome at all times and most guests never book. Reservations open up to 30 days ahead on SevenRooms for larger groups, generally ten or more, with groups of six or more accepted on Friday and Saturday from May through September. The dress code is relaxed, just no sweatpants or gym clothes.
