Don Angie is the West Village's cult Italian-American, a corner room on Greenwich Avenue that married chefs Angie Rito and Scott Tacinelli opened in 2017 and turned into one of the hardest tables in New York. Rito came up through her family's Sicilian bakery in Cleveland and then Torrisi; Tacinelli through Quality Italian. The cooking carries that pedigree without any of the stiffness.
The dining room is small and deliberately so: a single jewel-box space with blue-gray leather banquettes, bentwood chairs, a dark checkerboard floor, potted greenery, moody lighting, and a compact brass-accented bar. It reads more neighborhood trattoria than trophy restaurant, and the energy is warm and buzzy, tables close, the space filling the moment the doors open.
