COTE was the first restaurant anywhere in the world to put a Michelin star on Korean barbecue, the original Flatiron room where tableside grills and wall-to-wall wagyu meet a wine list deep enough to reward the effort.
Concept restaurateur Simon Kim opened it on 22nd Street in 2017, joining the communal ritual of Korean barbecue to the swagger of a classic American steakhouse. The dining room is dark, sleek, and moody, slate grey and bottle green offset by brass, smokeless grills sunk into every table, and the restaurant's own dry-aging room glowing behind glass in blood-red light meant to make the meat look, in the design team's words, sexy. Neon signage punctuates the space, from the pink Korean character for flower near the entrance to the red Pretty Pony sign over the main room.
