Little Sister sits underground at Moxy East Village on East 11th Street, one level below the restaurant, an intimate cocktail lounge that looks back to the cavern-like East Village lounges of the 1990s. The historical references reach further still: a custom wallcovering depicts the neighborhood's pastoral 19th-century past.
The design is dim and velvet-laced. Wood-clad, barrel-vaulted ceilings recall a hidden bootlegger-era whiskey cellar, and the room is furnished with cushioned banquettes, jewel-toned velvet sofas, locally crafted vintage chandeliers, and gold and leather accents. A mirrored-copper bar glows under an overhead bank of backlit whiskey bottles, and a glowing copper DJ stand anchors the floor under psychedelic lighting.
The scale is intimate, which gives the room its exclusive, in-the-know feel. Beyond its regular nights, Little Sister also hosts private and special events, with the DJ booth, vaulted ceilings, and velvet sofas as the backdrop.
