La Ponche is the restaurant of Hotel La Ponche, the five-star hotel in the old village of Saint-Tropez, overlooking the small cove of La Ponche. It began in 1938 as a simple fishermen's bar, where people tied up small boats at the pontoon, and grew into a hotel with rooms created from 1951, since renovated by Fabrizio Casiraghi.
The history here is real. From the 1950s the stars came: Boris Vian served friends behind the bar, Pablo Picasso and Jean-Paul Sartre passed through, Francoise Sagan arrived in her Jaguar, and the cast and crew of And God Created Woman settled in during the Bardot and Vadim years. The Saint-Germain-des-Pres-La Ponche bar still has its black and white checkered floor, big fireplace and deep armchairs.
Chef Simon Pinault cooks elegant, inventive Mediterranean food built on local vegetables, the fish of the day and market produce. Lunch is relaxed, with eggs Benedict, yellowtail ceviche and Caesar salad. Dinner brings rock fish soup, the grilled catch of the day with Provencal vegetables, roasted beef fillet with potato mousseline and Taggiasca olives, and a creamy spelt risotto with artichokes and toasted Piedmont hazelnuts, finished with the house warm chocolate mousse.
Tables are set on the terrace overlooking the sea or in the dining room, where evenings bring cotton tablecloths and low light. The restaurant is listed in the 2026 MICHELIN Guide France and serves Tuesday through Saturday, lunch from noon to 2:30 p.m. and dinner from 7 to 10:30 p.m.
