Lobby lounge on the 38th floor of Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo, behind floor-to-ceiling glass
Oriental Lounge lies just off the main lobby on the 38th floor of Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo, inside Nihombashi Mitsui Tower in Nihonbashi. The hotel calls it its nucleus: a place for coffee and fresh juice in the morning, afternoon tea through the day and cocktails, champagne and fine spirits into the evening.
It is an indoor lounge wrapped in floor-to-ceiling glass. By day the windows frame the city spread out below the tower; after dark the lights of Tokyo glitter through the glass while the lounge's original ceiling lights keep the room warm and low.
Afternoon tea is the work of Executive Pastry Chef Fabien Martin, who trained under Pierre Herme and joined the hotel in March 2023, and the menu changes with the seasons. The cocktail list runs from classics such as the Breakfast Martini and Espresso Martini to house creations: the Oriental Breakfast shakes the hotel's own Asagiri gin with yuzu, honey and truffle, and the Pizza Tiramisu is an after-dinner drink of Haku vodka, espresso, amaretto and cheese. Champagne Moment is a 90-minute free-flow of up to five sommelier-selected Champagnes, and a tasting set brings three KAVIARI caviars: Kristal, Oscietra Prestige and Baeri.
The lounge is open from 10am to 10:30pm daily, with last orders at 10pm and afternoon tea served from 11am to 6pm. The dress code is casual elegance, with no caps, sleeveless tops, shorts, casual sandals or flip-flops, and children are welcome.
