Michihiro Haruta's contemporary French tasting menu in a glass-walled house in Higashi-Azabu.
Crony is the contemporary French restaurant of chef Michihiro Haruta and sommelier Kazutaka Ozawa in Higashi-Azabu, Minato. It holds two MICHELIN stars in the MICHELIN Guide Tokyo 2026 and stands at No. 34 on Asia's 50 Best Restaurants 2026. The name means a lasting friend to share tea with, and the restaurant extends it to guests, producers and everyone who supports the team.
The restaurant occupies its own glass-walled house facing a park. Stairs beside the kitchen lead up to a Scandinavian-style dining room, and cooks and service staff both carry dishes to the table.
Dinner is a single chef's omakase tasting menu built on seasonal ingredients, opening with a seasonal tea. Haruta, born in Oita in 1987, cooked at Laurent and Ledoyen in Paris, Quintessence in Tokyo, Kadeau in Denmark, Maaemo in Oslo and Saison in San Francisco before settling here. His menus start from producers he visits himself and from ingredients that are kind to the environment: the kitchen passes on juvenile fish and endangered species, works with imperfect vegetables, and makes a specialty of sake lees left over from brewing, along with solar salt and honey. Ozawa runs the wine side of the room.
Dinner is served Monday to Saturday from 6:00 pm, with last orders at 7:30 pm, and the restaurant closes on Sundays. Guests must be 16 or older, and the house recommends smart casual dress, with a jacket or collared shirt for men.
