Where classic French cooking and a serious American steakhouse meet under one roof
ARTUR is where classic French cooking meets a serious American steakhouse, tucked into a townhouse just off Ploenchit Road in the leafy Ton Son enclave. Open since 2009, it is owner-run - Artur is in the dining room most nights - and the kitchen's discipline shows in the plates: prime cuts handled simply and sauces built the long way.
Set in a converted townhouse instead of a hotel, the dining room is polished enough for an occasion without tipping into stuffiness. It is intimate and grown-up, built for settling into several courses at an unhurried pace, and among Bangkok's steak crowd it is a byword for doing the fundamentals faultlessly.
The signatures are gloriously traditional. Pressed duck is carved and finished tableside on a Christofle silver press, the only service of its kind in Thailand, while a proper Beef Wellington and a beautifully rendered cote de boeuf anchor the meatier end of the menu.
This is a room that rewards ordering the showpiece. The mood suits a long, ceremonious dinner, glass of Burgundy in hand, of the kind that has largely vanished elsewhere. Book ahead, come hungry and unhurried, and consider one of the tableside classics to see the kitchen at full ceremony.
