Home-style Thai restaurant on the ground floor of the Waldorf Astoria Bangkok
Front Room sits on the ground floor of the Waldorf Astoria Bangkok on Ratchadamri Road, the hotel's all-day restaurant. It was reinvented in November 2020 around home-style Thai cooking, moving on from the hotel's original opening-year concept, and now builds every dish around the eight traditional Thai flavor profiles: sour, sweet, nutty, salty, spicy, bitter, astringent and mild.
The inspiration is ros mue mae, or mother's home cooking, with the menu drawing on family recipes and traditional technique instead of a fine-dining format. Earthy, handcrafted decor sets a warm, homelike tone that matches the food.
The current menu runs from a seared Hokkaido scallop with lotus stem, pomelo and homemade chili paste to a coconut broth with salted beef cheek, shallot and chili, plus a stir-fried squid and tiger prawn dish finished with a salted seafood sauce. A Ma Phrao Cheesecake closes the menu, and plant-based options are available throughout.
It is open for both lunch and dinner every day, roughly noon to 3 in the afternoon and 5:30 to 10:30 in the evening. Reservations are recommended, particularly for dinner.
