Ministry of Crab brings its Sri Lankan mud crab tradition to Sukhumvit Soi 31, near Phrom Phong
Ministry of Crab brings one of Asia's most celebrated seafood concepts to Bangkok, on Sukhumvit Soi 31 near Phrom Phong. The original opened in Colombo in 2011, founded by Sri Lankan chef Dharshan Munidasa alongside cricket legends Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara, and the Bangkok outpost - which arrived in 2019 - carries the same idea: let premium crab take center stage, cooked simply and served without fuss.
The Bangkok room centers on long, family-style dining tables that echo the original Colombo restaurant, inside the Sam-ed building on Soi 31, with a dedicated wine cellar stocked to pair with seafood. It is casual and communal, built for big group dinners.
Mud crab is the whole point. Crabs are graded by weight - from half a kilo up to the giant specimens - and cooked into the signatures that made the brand: garlic chilli crab, pepper crab and spicy Thai basil crab, with prawns and other seafood alongside. You order by size, roll up your sleeves, and get to work.
This is a destination booking for serious seafood lovers, and the marquee crabs sell out, so reserve ahead and ask about the day's catch. Come hungry, come in a group, and expect a hands-on, gloriously messy feast.
