Long-standing Cantonese dining room of the Shangri-La in Bang Rak
Shang Palace is the long-standing Cantonese dining room of the Shangri-La in Bang Rak, serving classic Chinese cooking beside the Chao Phraya for some three decades. It is a fixture of the riverside luxury scene and a reliable name for a proper Cantonese banquet in Bangkok.
The setting is an elegant, traditionally styled room within the riverside hotel, calm and formal in the manner of a grand Chinese dining hall, with attentive service to match.
Its calling card is roasted Peking duck prepared Hong Kong style: the crisp skin presented first with pancakes, the legs served with plum sauce, and the meat returned to the kitchen to be stir-fried with spring onion and ginger. Beyond the duck, the room is known for an all-you-can-eat dim sum lunch of 33 items, from steamed shrimp dumplings to barbecue favorites, with unlimited servings and a pot of Chinese tea included - authentic Cantonese flavors executed with real consistency.
It suits a family gathering, a business lunch or a celebratory dinner. Book ahead if you want the Peking duck, come with a group to work through the dim sum, and settle in for a classic Chinese banquet by the river.
