Chef Chalee Kader's one-Michelin-star restaurant near Victory Monument, and its premise is quietly radical
Wana Yook is chef Chalee Kader's one-Michelin-star restaurant near Victory Monument, and its premise is quietly radical: it takes khao gaeng, the everyday Thai curry-and-rice shophouse meal, and rebuilds it as a refined seasonal tasting menu. It ranks No. 47 on Asia's 50 Best Restaurants 2026, up from No. 81 the year before, marking Kader as one of the more inventive voices in modern Thai cooking.
The setting is a pastel-yellow, hundred-year-old colonial house with white shutters, tucked into the boutique 515 Victory Hotel. The evening is staged as a journey: a welcome drink in the lounge, a first bite taken in the kitchen itself, then a move into an elegant dining room - a sequence that turns dinner into a guided passage through the house.
The cooking reimagines Thai staples with flair and precision, drawing on regional flavors and street-food memory rather than palace formality. Dishes such as fried gourami fish with a punchy Thai dipping sauce and a refined take on khao soi show the method: familiar tastes, elevated technique, nothing lost in translation.
Intimate and personal, Wana Yook rewards diners curious about where Thai cooking is heading rather than where it has been. It sits a short walk from Victory Monument BTS, and the small house fills quickly, so book ahead.
