La Mome sits at 6 Rue Florian in Cannes, on the lane it shares with its sister rooms Moka and Mido. The name is a tribute to Suzanne Vreurick, known as La Mome Moineau: a flower seller in the Paris clubs of the 1920s, a singer famous for her quick comebacks, and later a Cannes billionaire whose parties at the Villa Bagatelle came to stand for Riviera glamour.
It began as a small place where friends met up and has grown into a lively, glamorous dinner room. Doors open for dinner at 7:30 p.m., seven nights a week, and every evening the lane comes alive as La Mome, Moka and Mido get going together. Valet parking is offered.
Executive chef Julian Cazalas cooks sunny Mediterranean food made for sharing, and the meal starts with focaccia dipped in lemon thyme and olive oil. Raw plates include tuna tartare with soy and sesame, sea bream ceviche in a spicy passion fruit marinade, and Gillardeau oysters, with Petrossian caviar also offered. Summer truffle runs through the risotto, the ravioli and the rigatoni, linguine comes in a creamy bisque with poached lobster, and plates for the table include a 1 kg Aberdeen cote de boeuf and a Chateaubriand.
Pastry chef Mathieu Marchand closes the night with a sharing sundae topped with caramelized popcorn, churros with salted caramel, and a souffle of the day.
