Tasca is chef Jose Avillez's first restaurant outside Portugal, set on the sixth floor of Mandarin Oriental Jumeira, Dubai. The name means tavern in Portuguese, and the menu translates the coastal cooking of Avillez's home country for a Gulf audience, backed by a wine list built around the largest selection of Portuguese wines in Dubai plus a craft cocktail program.
The dining room and terrace sit above the hotel's beachfront position on Jumeirah Beach Road, with an infinity pool on one side and skyline views toward Downtown Dubai on the other. Indoor seating opens onto an outdoor terrace, and Tasca's Infinity Bar runs as a separate sunset spot for cocktails on the same floor, looking out over the Arabian Gulf.
Head chef Jose Barroso, who has worked alongside Avillez since 2012, runs the kitchen day to day, building dishes from Portugal's coastal traditions. The current menu includes grilled carabinero prawns, grilled red mullet, clams in the traditional Bulhao Pato sauce, Algarve-style shrimp ceviche, and Wagyu beef tenderloin.
Dinner runs nightly from 6:30 pm to 11 pm, with lunch from 12:30 pm to 3 pm Sunday through Friday and a Saturday brunch from 12:30 pm to 4 pm. Live entertainment plays Friday and Saturday nights.
