Pirana runs 110 seats in a subterranean room beneath St James's Street in Mayfair, designed by Strongarm Hospitality, the group behind The London REIGN and TABU, and opened in 2024. Neon-lit caverns, cascading vines, and velvet booths spread across the main floor, flanked by a front bar for aperitivos and a floating private-dining pod that overlooks the central stage, where staff wield sparklers for the dramatic dish unveilings.
The kitchen is led by chef Mark Morrans, formerly of Nobu and MNKY HSE, and the menu is Nikkei, a Japanese-Peruvian fusion. The raw bar runs to Seabass Ceviche and A5 Wagyu beef skewers; the theatrical centerpiece is a 1kg Australian Tomahawk at around 350 pounds; and the signature shareable plates include Crispy Rice with Spicy Salmon and Grilled Octopus. The bar leans into an espresso-martini lineup and experimental cocktails like the Illeberta, a passionfruit pisco sour at 18 pounds.
As the evening builds, live DJs spinning house and Latin grooves turn the room from polished dinner into club energy, running nightly until 1am. The crowd is London's going-out set, and a discreet outdoor terrace offers a break from the high-octane interior when you need it.
The room serves Tuesday to Friday, noon to 4pm and 6pm to 1am. Dress is chic and sophisticated: heels and a dress for women, dress shoes with smart trousers and a dress shirt for men, and no ripped jeans, sportswear, caps, sunglasses, hoodies, flip-flops, or shorts. Tables tighten around Wimbledon fortnight and Royal Ascot. One location note: Pirana is at 7-9 St James's Street, SW1A, not Kensington.
