Pirana occupies a subterranean room beneath St James's Street in Mayfair, opened in 2024. Neon-lit caverns, cascading vines, and velvet booths spread across the main floor, flanked by a front bar for aperitivos and a floating private-dining pod for up to twelve guests that overlooks the central stage, where staff wield sparklers for the dramatic dish unveilings.
The kitchen is led by chef Mark Morrans, formerly of Nobu and MNKY HSE, and the menu is Nikkei, a Japanese-Peruvian fusion. The raw bar runs to seabass ceviche, and the signature shareable plates include crispy rice with spicy salmon and a crunchy wagyu maki roll. The bar leans into an espresso-martini lineup alongside pisco-based cocktails.
As the evening builds, live DJs spinning house and Latin grooves turn the room from a polished dinner into club energy, running nightly until 1am and building toward an immersive show around 10pm. The crowd is London's going-out set, dressed to match the room's energy.
Pirana serves dinner only Tuesday through Thursday, 7pm to 1am, and Friday and Saturday, 6pm to 1am, with Sunday adding a 1pm to 6pm sitting before dinner resumes at 8pm; the room is closed Monday. Dress is chic and sophisticated: heels and a dress for women, dress shoes with smart trousers and a dress shirt for men, and no ripped jeans, sportswear, caps, sunglasses, hoodies, flip-flops, or shorts. Tables get hard to book around Wimbledon fortnight and Royal Ascot. One location note: Pirana is at 7-9 St James's Street, SW1A, not Kensington.
