Berners Tavern is Jason Atherton's grand British brasserie inside The London EDITION on Berners Street in Fitzrovia, and its dining room is one of the most photographed in the city. Designed as part of Ian Schrager's London EDITION, the room sits under a 5.5-meter corniced and ornately plastered ceiling, with two large custom bronze chandeliers and walls layered with more than 200 gilt-framed paintings and photographs, hung like a private collection. Curved leather banquettes, dusty-rose chairs, candlelight and a long backlit bar give it a theatrical, old-world glamour. It is built for entrances and draws a well-dressed crowd for dinner and drinks.
The cooking is contemporary British brasserie, served across breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus a Sunday roast that regulars book weeks ahead. Expect seasonal British produce handled with real precision - crisp-skinned fish with a bright sauce, a classic Sunday joint with all the trimmings, generous sharing plates, backed by a serious wine list and a full cocktail program.
