The Maine is Joey Ghazal's New England brasserie set inside a Grade II listed Georgian townhouse at 20 Hanover Square, built in 1720 and reworked by BradyWilliams with old-world British elegance, New England extravagance, and a touch of subterranean decadence. It runs five distinct rooms over three floors, the seafood is the star, and live jazz and burlesque run through the week. If you know the Dubai flagship or the Ibiza outpost, this is the London chapter of the same family.
The Brasserie is the marquee room and the one to book: a neo-speakeasy dining hall where every seat faces a stage, anchored by a statement chandelier, Hollywood-regency sofas, and a raw bar. Below it, the Tavern turns the original cellars into a British-pub-meets-speakeasy bar with a zinc counter. There is also the Drawing Room, and in warmer months the Medici Courtyard terrace. Live jazz runs Tuesday through Saturday in the Brasserie, with burlesque Thursday through Saturday.
The menu leans seafood and the raw bar is where it shines. Start with freshly shucked oysters, a colossal shrimp cocktail, or one of the tiered seafood towers, the Poseidon and the Classic, both built for the table. From there the kitchen ranges wide: Orkney diver scallops and poached Maine lobster on the sea side, sticky short rib on the land side.
Cocktails from the Tavern bar are a strong opener, and the Golden Hour and Shuck Fest deals earlier in the week are the value window for the oysters without the peak-night crush.
