Pastis is the reborn Meatpacking District brasserie that plays Paris straight, a buzzy all-day French bistro that works for a weekday breakfast, a long weekend brunch, or the loud, glamorous dinner that kicks off a night out. The original opened in 1999, and the revival arrived in 2019 at 52 Gansevoort Street, a stone's throw from the old address.
The new room carries over the details regulars remember. Its centerpiece is the curved zinc bar wrapped in subway tile, backed by vintage mirrors with the day's specials written by hand, over a mosaic-tiled floor. There is outdoor dining as well as indoor, and group dining and private events can be arranged for up to 50 guests.
The kitchen plays the bistro standards well: oysters with mignonette, escargots in garlic-parsley butter, steak tartare, and a much-loved steak sandwich with onions and Gruyere. Moules frites and duck confit anchor the mains, the fries are a draw of their own, and profiteroles close things out. Breakfast and brunch run from eggs Benedict with Parisian ham to buttermilk pancakes, and each day has its own plat du jour, from Friday bouillabaisse to Saturday duck a l'orange.
Breakfast runs from 8:00 AM on weekdays, with lunch from 11:30 AM, and weekend brunch starts at 10:00 AM. Dinner runs until 11:00 PM Sunday through Thursday and until midnight on Friday and Saturday. Reservations on Resy are for parties of up to six, and bar seating is first come, first served.
