Vietnamese cooking with French influence and a craft cocktail bar on Broadway in Golden Hill.
Kingfisher is a Vietnamese restaurant at 2469 Broadway, in the historic Golden Hill neighborhood, and it carries a MICHELIN Guide listing in the 2026 California selection. The kitchen takes root from the culinary heritage of Vietnam and presents a classic take on Vietnamese food with French influence and a California sensibility.
The room is organized around a striking central bar, which is where the craft cocktail program sits. The house describes that program as forward-thinking, and it is built to stand alongside the kitchen rather than trail it.
What the kitchen aims for is a balance between the soulful and the intricate, working from traditional Vietnamese dishes and ingredients. Executive Chef David Sim took the role in March of 2023 and was Kingfisher's first official employee, and Sydney Imlay is chef de cuisine.
The restaurant is named for the kingfisher bird, common across Southeast Asia and a symbol of transformation, resilience, creation and prosperity. Service runs from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm on Monday and Wednesday through Saturday, and from 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm on Sunday, so the Sunday sitting opens an hour earlier and closes an hour earlier than the rest of the week. Dinner is the single service of the day, with no lunch window to work around.
