Serẽa at Hotel del Coronado · Restaurant · San Diego

Sea-to-table cooking from JoJo Ruiz on the beach at Hotel del Coronado.
Serẽa is the sea-to-table restaurant at Hotel del Coronado, set on the beach side of a property that has been a Southern California landmark since the 1880s. It is the work of chef JoJo Ruiz, who also runs Lionfish in the Gaslamp Quarter, and the two rooms share a commitment to sustainable, locally landed seafood.
The cooking leans Mediterranean more than Californian. Avgolemono and a Greek salad sit alongside the Serẽa mezze, wood-grilled octopus and crispy saganaki, and the raw side runs from Baja kampachi and halibut ceviche to a daily oyster selection and caviar service. Whole fish comes off the wood grill and is the clearest statement of what the kitchen is for: good product landed nearby and handled lightly.
The outdoor bar pours cocktails, local beer and an eclectic wine list, and the Sunset Bar runs its own longer hours through the afternoon and into the evening.
Dinner is served nightly, to 9 PM Sunday through Thursday and 10 PM on Friday and Saturday, with brunch added Saturday and Sunday from 9 AM to 2 PM. Coronado sits across the bay from downtown San Diego, a short drive over the bridge.
