Soichi Sushi · Restaurant · San Diego

Seasonal omakase at a small counter on Adams Avenue, Michelin-starred.
Soichi Sushi sits on Adams Avenue in University Heights, well away from the downtown dining strip, and it holds a MICHELIN star in the 2026 California selection. It is a small counter built around a seasonal omakase, and the format has stayed deliberately narrow as the recognition has grown.
The meal is served in the Japanese tradition it takes its name from: courses chosen by the chef and balanced for texture, temperature and taste rather than ordered from a list, each one placed in front of the guest and explained. The room runs on omotenashi, the Japanese idea of hospitality as anticipation, and the counter is where it is felt most.
This is an evening-only restaurant, open Wednesday through Sunday from 4:30 PM to 9:30 PM, and closed Monday and Tuesday.
Seats are released in a monthly block rather than a rolling window, and they are taken quickly, so the booking date matters more here than at almost any other table in the city. A deposit is taken at reservation and group size is capped, both of which keep the counter running at the pace the format needs.
