Signature Thai restaurant of The Sukhothai Bangkok, and its setting is half the pleasure - wooden pavilions
Celadon is the signature Thai restaurant of The Sukhothai Bangkok, and its setting is half the pleasure - wooden pavilions set among lotus ponds and lush greenery within the hotel's serene, manicured grounds. It is one of the calmest and most elegant Thai rooms in the city, and it appears among the Michelin Guide's recommended listings.
The pavilion architecture and water gardens create a sense of hushed retreat rare in central Bangkok, equally suited to a quiet special occasion or an unhurried business dinner. Service is gracious and attentive without ever hovering.
The extensive a la carte menu gathers timeless specialties from across Thailand, faithfully prepared as they have been for generations: rich green chicken curry with crisp roti, delicately balanced soups and stir-fries, and a spicy river prawn soup done properly. Save room for Bua Celadon, a signature lotus-inspired dessert of softly cooked red beans, osmanthus ice cream and coconut jelly.
For traditional Thai cooking in a tranquil garden setting, it is hard to beat. Evenings are the most atmospheric, when the ponds and pavilions are lit; smart dress suits the room, and booking ahead is advised.
