Wine-library Italian restaurant on Sukhumvit Soi 27, Bangkok, known for its nearly 400-bottle list
Enoteca Italiana has been a fixture of the Bangkok dining scene for years, tucked down Sukhumvit Soi 27 near Asok as half restaurant and half hidden wine bar. The name means wine library, and it earns it - the list runs to nearly 400 bottles, with a serious spine of Barolo and every Italian region represented. It appears in the Michelin Guide Thailand today, though without a star, and remains one of the city's more established Northern Italian kitchens.
The room is intimate and low-lit, the kind of quietly romantic space that has long made it a default for anniversaries and milestone dinners. Bottles line the walls, and the whole place carries the hush of a proper cellar.
The cooking is largely traditional, built on ingredients flown in from Europe and finished with a modern touch, but the wine is genuinely half the reason to come. The pairings are considered, and the sommelier is happy to lead the way through the list.
This is a place for a long, unhurried evening - settle in, hand the wine choices to the floor, and let a slow succession of Northern Italian plates and well-matched glasses carry the night. Booking ahead is wise, especially for a special occasion.
