Chef Pichaya 'Pam' Soontornyanakij's most talked-about opening
Khao San Sek is chef Pichaya 'Pam' Soontornyanakij's most talked-about opening, an innovative Thai restaurant on Song Wat Road in the old-Bangkok riverside quarter of Songwat, near Yaowarat. Named BK's Best New Restaurant 2026, it arrived on the back of Pam's crowning as the World's Best Female Chef at the 2025 World's 50 Best awards, and it channels her research-driven, contemporary lens on Thai cooking into a form that feels both scholarly and fun.
BK Magazine also named it Best New Restaurant Design for 2026, recognition for a room built to match the ambition of the cooking on Song Wat Road.
The concept is built around five sacred ingredients at the heart of Thai cuisine - rice, chili, coconut, fish sauce and palm sugar - and the name itself means sacred milled rice. The house menu runs through dishes like six-hour smoked beef tongue with sate and house pickles, Thai eggplant relish with sticky rice and herbs, and slow-cooked pork ribs in a three-flavor palm sauce, with an optional sato pairing.
It is one of the hottest tables in the city right now, so book well ahead and come ready for a full, structured tasting, not a casual drop-in.
