Tokyo-style sushi omakase counter on Sukhumvit Soi 39
Tucked toward the quiet end of Sukhumvit Soi 39, Sushi Ichizu is a Tokyo-style omakase house built around a single sushi counter, deliberately quiet and understated so nothing pulls focus from the food.
The counter is led by chef Toda Riku, who trained under Hachiro Mizutani at the three-Michelin-star Sushi Mizutani before becoming sous chef under Takaaki Sugita, first at Miyakozushi and later at Sugita, today a two-Michelin-star counter in Tokyo. That lineage shows in the restraint and precision of the work here.
The omakase is composed from seasonal ingredients flown in from Japan. Three formats are offered - a nigiri course, a mini omakase and the full omakase - so the experience flexes to the appetite and the occasion.
The restaurant runs five seatings a day, two around midday and three in the evening, with nine guests taken at each round. Reservations are essential and best made well ahead through the venue's own booking page; same-day requests are accepted by phone only. Come hungry, sit at the counter, and let the meal unfold at the chef's pace.
