Contemporary Japanese robatayaki restaurant in Dubai, the sister concept to Zuma
Roka is Dubai's home for contemporary Japanese robatayaki, the sister concept to Zuma from the Azumi group, set dramatically inside Zaha Hadid's sculptural Opus building in Business Bay. Floor-to-ceiling glass frames Burj Khalifa and the Downtown skyline, making it a magnet for a polished, design-literate crowd.
Interiors by Noriyoshi Muramatsu strike a warm, modern-industrial balance: brushed concrete, raw and lacquered wood, blackened metal shelving and amber light that ages rather than dates. At the center sits the open robata grill, ringed by counter seating so guests can watch the live grilling and plating, while an airy terrace extends the room toward the city.
The kitchen builds around charcoal. Signatures include sea bream fillet in ryotei miso, rosuto bone marrow with garlic confit, lamb cutlets and other robata cuts, alongside precise sushi and sashimi, king crab and black cod dumplings, and the cult baked potato with yuzu cream that has jumped from Dubai onto menus worldwide.
The mood is buzzy but grounded, spanning business lunch, evenings at Roka and a lively family brunch. Online booking covers parties up to twelve; larger groups and the semi-private room go through the team directly, and weekend tables are worth securing a few days ahead.
