Beast is a carnivore's basement theater at 3 Chapel Place, just off Oxford Street, reached by an elevator that descends past floor-to-ceiling tanks of live Norwegian red king crab hauled from the Barents Sea. The tanks set the premise: shellfish from the cold north, beef dry-aged in-house. It opened in 2014 and has built a cult following among serious meat-and-shellfish eaters over more than a decade.
The dining room is a candlelit cavern lined with rustic stone, its earthy walls nodding to the highland pastures where the cattle are reared, anchored by long communal tables built for shared feasting. Hundreds of flickering candles keep it intimate despite the scale, and staff walk guests through the sourcing and handle tableside finishes.
The menu is deliberately narrow. Norwegian king crab is the draw, whole or by the leg, alongside beef tiers running from USDA Nebraskan beef and Lake District bone-in ribeye, sirloin and porterhouse up to Japanese Wagyu sirloin and Japanese Kobe sirloin. Starters lean to hand-dived Orkney Island scallops, Japanese wagyu tataki, oysters and lobster tacos, with a Beast Tasting Menu available for the table.
The layout and volume suit big parties and celebrations. Service runs Monday to Wednesday from 6:00 PM to 10:30 PM, and Thursday to Saturday from noon to 10:30 PM. Beast is closed Sunday, when the room is available for private hire.
