A 1934 Thomas Lamb theater turned dance club in South Beach's Art Deco District
M2 fills a historic theater at 1235 Washington Avenue, in the middle of South Beach's Art Deco District. The building was designed by Thomas Lamb in 1934 and still carries its Art Deco details, and over the decades it has housed Club Z, Paragon, Mansion and Prince's Glam Slam.
The main room is billed as South Beach's largest dance floor: a double-height former theater with the DJ booth on a full-size stage, two big bars, and The Spider, an eight-legged LED creation, hanging overhead. A mezzanine balcony looks down on the floor with its own bar and VIP sections, six skyboxes and a private room with its own entrance give larger groups some separation, and the Chamber Room works as a lounge off the main room or as a separate party of its own.
The sound leans electronic, with touring DJs and themed parties on the calendar, and Resistance, Ultra Music Festival's underground party, takes over Saturdays from October to May. M2 is generally open Friday and Saturday, with doors usually at 10 PM and a 5 AM close; each event lists its own start time, and the club is 21 and over.
Dress to impress: no beach or gym clothes, no sleeveless shirts, athletic shorts or jerseys, no sandals or flip-flops, and no dirty sneakers.
