Delmonico's opened in the Financial District in 1837 as America's original fine-dining steakhouse, and reopened in September 2023 after a pandemic-era closure. This is the room where the Delmonico steak, Lobster Newberg, and Baked Alaska were all first put on a plate.
The restored main dining room sits inside the triangular building at Beaver and William, where an updated ornate ceiling sets off the original cherry-wood wainscoting. The portico still stands on its original Pompeian pillars, and the Delmonico's Bar beside the main dining room is the spot for a martini before you sit.
The anchor is the Signature Delmonico Ribeye, an 18 oz cut, first created in the Delmonico kitchen in 1850. From there come the dishes the house credits to 19th-century chef Charles Ranhofer: Lobster Newberg with a cognac lobster reduction, and the Baked Alaska, banana gelato and walnut cake with apricot jam, created in Delmonico's kitchens in 1867. Round it out with the Maine crab cake wrapped in potato string, Oscar's wedge salad with Stilton and bacon, creamed spinach, and fries.
Reservations open six months in advance for parties of up to ten, and walk-ins are welcome on a first-come basis with the full menu. Lunch runs daily 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM, with dinner Monday to Friday 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, Saturday 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and Sunday 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Dress is smart casual; jackets are appreciated but not required, and tracksuits, hats, flip-flops, shorts, and sports attire are out.
