The Corner Store takes the landmark corner of Houston and West Broadway in SoHo and runs it as an upscale version of an old New York joint. The nostalgia is deliberate and so is the polish; it is not a diner and it is not trying to be.
The menu splits three ways. There is a raw bar with oysters, a jumbo shrimp cocktail and bluefin tartare. There is comfort cooking played straight, including a five-cheese pizza roll and a Caesar with everything-bagel croutons. And there is a butcher's counter that carries real weight: 30-day dry-aged New York strip and ribeye, a centre-cut filet, steak frites, and a wagyu French dip built on 72-hour Westholme ribeye.
