Kotaro Meguro's sea-and-forest French tasting menu at Ebisu Hills in Ebisunishi, near Daikanyama.
Abysse is chef Kotaro Meguro's seafood-led contemporary French restaurant on the ground floor of the Ebisu Hills building in Ebisunishi, on the Daikanyama side of Shibuya. It holds one MICHELIN star in the MICHELIN Guide Tokyo 2026. Meguro, born in Yokohama in 1985, cooked at Le Petit Nice Passedat in Marseille and at Quintessence in Tokyo before opening Abysse in 2015, and moved it to this address in March 2019.
The name means the deep sea, and the dining room is kept dim to recall the depths of the ocean or a dark forest. The plates and glassware come from Japanese craftspeople, among them the ceramic artists Shigeo Akiya of Saitama and Satoru Niinai of Arita, and the glass artist Tomokazu Igarashi of Chiba.
The kitchen works to a theme of the sea and the forest: every dish brings together seafood and flavors from the woods, and the single omakase course of 12 dishes changes with each of Japan's four seasons. Drinks follow one of three pairings, built around Champagne and original cocktails, around non-alcoholic cocktails, or split half and half, and a wine pairing is also offered. On Sundays and public holidays the restaurant adds a lunch course.
Dinner starts at 6:00 pm, with last orders at 8:00 pm, and the restaurant closes on Wednesdays. Children are welcome from junior high school age, and men are asked to avoid tank tops, shorts, tracksuits and flip-flops.
Address: Ebisu Hills 1F, 1-30-12 Ebisunishi, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo 150-0021, Tokyo
